Tabern rewards are a visit punch card: members earn a stamp per approved check-in and unlock rewards at milestones you set. This page defines the exact rules — the guides tell you how to click, this tells you what happens.
Program structure
- One rewards program per venue. Editing it preserves member progress; deleting it does not.
- A program has 1 to 12 milestones, each at a unique visit count.
- Each milestone grants one reward: a percentage discount (above 0, up to 100%), a fixed amount, or a specific active menu item from your venue.
- Your highest milestone defines the cycle length. After a member passes it, progress starts the cycle over — a program topping out at visit 10 repeats every 10 visits.
- Pausing the program stops check-ins but freezes progress; resuming continues where members left off.
Membership
- Members join with just an email — a 6-digit code verifies them. No password, no Tabern account.
- Membership is scoped to your venue. The same email can be a member of other venues' programs separately.
- Each member gets an 8-character member code rendered as their QR — on the web card and in their wallet pass.
Check-in lifecycle
One approved scan at a Rewards Scanner kiosk, step by step:
- Staff scan the member's QR or enter the code manually; the member's card appears.
- Staff review and approve (or deny — denied scans are recorded).
- Redeem first: any reward the member already had available is redeemed on this visit.
- Then count the visit: the member's visit count goes up by one.
- Then grant: if the new count reaches a milestone, that reward is granted — available for the member's next approved check-in.
- The result screen shows the outcome; the member's card and Wallet pass reflect it.
Duplicate protection: an approved check-in for the same member at any of your kiosks within 60 seconds is suppressed — one visit counts once.
Member statuses
- Active — earning normally.
- Paused — set by you. No check-ins until you reactivate. Members can't unpause themselves.
- Unsubscribed — usually set by the member from the rewards page. Progress is kept; the member can reactivate themselves by verifying their email again.
- Deleted by owner — permanent. Progress, history, and grants are removed; a rejoining member starts from zero. There is no restore.
Managing members is covered in Members.
Program changes
- Editing milestones, card details, or the Wallet pass updates existing members automatically — their cards and passes update over the air.
- Deleting the program is permanent: members' available rewards are forfeited and the rewards page goes offline. Type DELETE to confirm.
- Item-based rewards must point to active items in your menu — retire the item and the reward needs a new target.
Wallet integration
Members on iPhone can add their card to Apple Wallet, and members on Android can add it to Google Wallet — both carry the same member code and live progress. Passes update automatically when the program changes. Scanning works identically from Wallet or the web card. See Wallet passes.
