Tabern analytics is first-party and privacy-preserving by design: no tracking cookies, no cross-site tracking, no third-party trackers — and it only counts guests who accept the site's cookie banner. This page defines each metric precisely so you can trust what the numbers mean — and know what they can't tell you.
How tracking works
When a guest who accepted the site's cookie banner loads a page on your published site, Tabern records a page view: the venue, the path, the referring site if any, the browser's user agent, and an anonymous session marker. Guests who decline the banner, draft previews, and the dashboard are never counted.
The session marker is generated client-side and is not an account, a login, or a cookie. It cannot identify a person and doesn't follow them to other websites.
The metrics
- Total Views — count of page views in the selected range. Refreshes count again; it's a load counter, not a person counter.
- Unique Visitors — count of distinct session markers in the range. An approximation of people, inflated by new sessions (new device, cleared browser data, incognito) and slightly deflated by one person on multiple devices in a single session.
- Menu Views — views of your menu content.
- Booking Views — views of your booking page.
The chart shows views over time, grouped daily, weekly, or monthly per your grouping choice. The ranges are yours to pick; nothing is kept from you and nothing expires.
What it cannot tell you
- Identity — no metric knows who a guest is, even rewards members.
- Conversions or revenue — pair with your booking platform's own reports for reservation outcomes.
- Behavioral replay or heatmaps — no session recording exists; that's the privacy trade-off.
- Referrer detail beyond top sources — the platform surfaces the leading referrers, not an exhaustive list.
Privacy posture
- Zero cookies used for analytics — the session marker is browser session storage, not a cookie.
- Consent-gated: guests who decline the site's cookie banner are never counted.
- No data sharing with ad networks; nothing leaves Tabern for tracking purposes.
- Analytics is per-venue: your numbers cover your site only.
