Build your menu

Get your first menu into Tabern — by hand, or by scanning an existing one.

Two ways to build

Tabern gives you two paths from empty menu to published menu:

  • Scan an existing menu — upload a PDF or photo of your current menu and let the AI menu scanner extract sections, items, and prices for you to review. Fastest path if you already have a menu. See Menu scanner.
  • Add items by hand — create menus, sections, and items directly in the Menu manager. Best for new menus or small additions. See Sections & items.

Quick path: scan your menu

  1. Open the Menu page from the dashboard sidebar.

  2. Click Scan Menu and upload a PDF or photo of your menu (up to 10 MB per file).

  3. Wait for extraction — Tabern shows the structured result when it finishes.

  4. Review each section and item; fix any failed rows or wrong prices.

  5. Import the result, then adjust ordering and photos.

Quick path: manual entry

  1. Open the Menu page and click Add Menu; give it a name.

  2. Create sections — Starters, Mains, Desserts, Drinks, whatever fits.

  3. Click Add Item in a section; enter the name, description, and price.

  4. Mark items active as you go, or flip them all at once before publishing.

Dietary info, photos, and pricing

Items support dietary tags (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, spicy), photos, and portion variations with their own prices. Details in Sections & items.
