Getting started

Create your Tabern account, get your first website, and find your way around the dashboard.

Choose how to start

Every Tabern website is either on the free website that comes with a Tabern device, or on the paid plan, a subscription billed per website.

  • Free website: buy Tabern tap devices (Cards, Stands, or Dots) from the device store, or activate a card, and your account gets one free website. It includes your menu, hours, deals, and booking links, and you can publish it.
  • Paid plan: billed monthly or yearly for each website. It adds the AI menu scanner, the rewards program and members, kiosks and the employee scanner, Apple & Google Wallet passes and notifications, and a custom domain. Current prices are on the Pricing page.

You can start on the free website and upgrade later from your dashboard. Every website after your first free one needs its own subscription.

Create your account

There are three ways in. Pick the one that matches how you're starting.

From the homepage signup form

The homepage signup form builds a paid website in one go, starting from photos of your menu.

  1. Fill in First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Password (at least 8 characters), and Confirm Password.

  2. Under Upload Menu Images, add at least one photo of your menu (up to 4 images, 10 MB each), then click Continue to details.

  3. Fill in your restaurant details. Restaurant Name and Phone Number are required; Public Site Subdomain is filled from your restaurant name if you leave it blank. Logo, Tagline, Our Story, address, Business Hours, and Reservation Policy are optional.

  4. Click Save and continue. Tabern creates your account and sends you to Stripe checkout for the monthly plan.

  5. After payment you land on Account Settings. A Finishing website setup bar shows while Tabern creates your website, scans your menu photos, and saves your details.

  6. When setup finishes, click Manage on your new website to open its dashboard.

From the Pricing page

  1. On the Pricing page, pick Monthly or Yearly and click Start Now.

  2. In Create your account, enter your Email Address and Password (at least 8 characters), then click Continue.

  3. Add your First Name and Last Name, plus a Referral Code if someone gave you one, then click Create Account & Continue to Payment.

  4. Complete Stripe checkout. You return to Account Settings with a subscription ready to use.

  5. Create your website from My Websites (see below).

By buying a Tabern device

Device checkout creates your account for you: the Contact section of checkout asks for an email and password. Your order unlocks one free website.

  1. Shop Tabern devices from the homepage and check out. Enter the email and password you want for your Tabern account.

  2. Set up your free website from Account Settings any time, even before your devices arrive.

  3. When your cards arrive, open Orders & cards and type the 5-character code printed on each card, or tap it with your phone.

  4. Choose which website each card opens.

Create a website from Account Settings

If you came through the Pricing page or the device store, you create the website yourself.

  1. Open Account Settings. Under My Websites, click the + button (or Create Website if you have none yet).

  2. Enter your Restaurant Name. Tabern suggests a Subdomain from it and checks that it’s free as you type; you need at least 3 characters and an “is available” message.

  3. Check the panel below the fields. “Free website unlocked” means your device order covers it. “Billing ready” means an unused subscription will be attached. Otherwise you add billing in the next step.

  4. Click Continue, review the name and address, then click Create Website (or Add Billing & Continue to pay first).

  5. Your website appears under My Websites. Click Manage to open its dashboard.

Tour the dashboard

Your website's dashboard has a sidebar on the left. Each item has a matching guide here in the docs:

  • Overview: page views and card taps for your site. See Analytics.
  • My Website: your Home, About, Reservations, and Contact page content, with a live preview. See Pages & sections.
  • Menu Manager: menus, categories, items, and the AI menu scanner. See the Menu guide.
  • Deals & Promos: limited-time offers. See Deals & promos.
  • Hours & Location: addresses, contact details, opening hours, and temporary notices. See Hours & location.
  • Customers → Members, Rewards, Kiosks, Notifications: your rewards program and wallet passes. See the Customers guide.

  • View Live Site: opens your published site in a new tab.

Your account itself (profile, websites, billing, and device orders) lives outside the dashboard. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then choose your name again at the top of the menu to open Account Settings in a new tab. See the Account & settings guide.
