Billing & subscription

Plans, checkout, the billing portal, and what happens when you cancel.

Each website on your account has its own Tabern subscription, billed monthly or yearly through Stripe. Publishing requires an active subscription; the subscription is what keeps your public site online.

Create a website with a plan

From Account Settings, use Create New Website. You'll pick a venue name and subdomain, choose monthly or yearly, then continue to Stripe's secure checkout to enter your card. When checkout completes, your venue is created and ready to build. Details in My websites.

Manage billing

The Manage Billing button in Account Settings opens the Stripe billing portal, where you can:

  • Download invoices and receipts.
  • Update your payment method.
  • Cancel your subscription.

Cancel a subscription

Cancel from the billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period: your site stays online until then, and goes offline when the period ends. You can resubscribe any time before then to keep it live. If Stripe fully deletes the subscription (rather than cancel-at-period-end), the site goes offline right away.

Trials

Some accounts start on a trial. When a trial expires, your published site is taken offline automatically. You'll get a warning email first. Pick a plan to bring it back. Tabern can also grant trials by request — reach out via Community.

Payment issues

If a payment fails, Stripe retries it and your site keeps publishing during the grace window — an existing site isn't cut off instantly. Update your card in the billing portal to resolve it. Note that creating a new website does require a subscription in good standing.

Tips

  • See Publishing for how publishing depends on your subscription.
  • Payment and invoice questions all live in the Stripe portal. Tabern never stores your card.
